My wife Daina and I stayed with Joaquin, Pablo, and their family as part of the Coya Amazonas tours in 2017... and it was the best experience of our 13 months travelling around the world. Firstly, from the very beginning of our tour we felt welcomed and safe as we were picked up in a hand built traditional boat. For 4 days and 3 nights we stayed in Siete De Augosto and were shown many marvellous things by Joaquin and the other guides. We fished for catfish and piraña, successfully spotted grey and pink river dolphins, were taken on many walks through the rainforest, and learnt the traditional ways of life in the community. We saw cayman, sloths, macaws, birds of every type, a well hidden tarantula, and all whilst being educated by the incredible knowledge of the team. On a particularly special day, Pablo with his sensational cooking skills took us through a class of traditional cooking of steamed catfish and locally grown veggies, patacones, and yuka. It was I think the best tasting food we ate on our whole trip. It is no wonder the people of the communities all look so healthy and happy! My wife and I felt safe, welcomed, awestruck constantly by the beauty of the region, and felt like a part of the community. Our opportunity to experience this with Coya Amazonas tours and being able to gain this insight their incredible way of life was invaluable, and something we will never forget. It was also wonderful to know that the money you spend goes directly into the family and community, instead of just another generic tour trying to make as much profit as possible for some big company. The experience was unequivocally authentic, eye opening, and I would absolutely recommend Coya Amazonas Tours to every traveller willing to go on a truly once in a lifetime adventure!!!!! WE WANT TO GO BACK AND MISS YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!! Paz, amor, y felicidadread more

We have just come back from the best trip I have ever had! I would highly recommend this sustainable eco... friendly tour. It’s easy as tourists to forget that the big companies can generate huge profit for themselves, exploit the environment and community and leave the community penniless. We did not want this to happen so we searched for a sustainable tour and when we were there we knew it was sustainable and eco friendly and could see that the money was given back to the community! We stayed with Joaquin and Rosa who were so welcoming and friendly. They went out of their way to make our trip special. I also have never slept so well, the beds are super comfy and we were fed so well. I don’t normally like fish but the fish was delicious, I miss it!! We went on a jungle walk and saw many animals, we went fishing and caught loads of piranhas and catfish and saw dolphins and at night we went to find cayman! I felt completely safe on this tour and would recommend to anyone! Alex is English and takes care of the bookings and translating. Shenandoah was our translator who came with us on the trip, she was fantastic despite being ill, we previously went to her museum- memorial tour of the sierra nevada in minca which is amazing and I would fully recommend that too. Joaquin works so hard, I wish them all the success for the future. This tour has only been going for a few years so I don’t think many people are aware of it yet. Please choose your tour wisely and try to pick something sustainable, you will have the best time knowing you have and will make a massive difference to the community!read more

This tour was incredible - juaco and rosa who we stayed with were the best hosts we could have asked for.... truly treated us like one of the family. And the food was delicious - best plantain I had over the whole trip. From speaking to other people who’ve done similar tours this definitely seems to be the best. Sounds like you do the same activities as the other tours but you can actually see where your money goes - to the local community - rather than to a tour company who pay the workers next to nothing. Alex the coordinator was really helpful and easy to contact. Our translator, shannon, was amazing. She’s also a guide at the memorial museum of sierra nevada (museum in minca) which i would highly highly recommend to anyone going to minca!! She knows it all. So yeah honestly could not have asked for a better experience and if you want to see the benefits that tourism can have instead of all the negatives then choose this tour!!read more

This was the most amazing thing we ever did! No big groups, no big tour company...just me my girlfriend and... the people who live in the amazonas. We went for a three day tour and went on a jungle trip, went fishing for piranha’s, had the most amazing food ever, saw caymans and dolphins, and went swimming in the amazon river. Alex set everything up for us so we had a perfect stay with Joaquin and Rosa in a small community in the jungle. Almost all of the money goes directly to Joaquin to provide his family and the community they live in. Stop looking for other tours. Just book this one. Trust me...you’re not going to regret it!read more

An authentic and conscious experience in a impressive reality!! Honestly I couldn't ask for a better... experience in the Amazon jungle with a native community!! It was not only an intense contact with nature but also a very interesting and educative interaction with the indigenous community. Experiencing to see how they use the nature around them to eat, for transportation, health care, construction, etc... Totally recommend it, and I'm definitely coming back! 😍read more

This tour was everything I was hoping for and more. It’s truly an authentic experience. We saw so many... animals and birds, went deep into the jungle, swam in the Amazon, pink dolphins, monkeys, went fishing and so much more. The host family/tour guides were absolutely amazing and very good hosts. The food was also amazing with full blown breakfast, lunch and dinner. Oh yea, we also harvested açaí from the jungle and learned how to process it. This is a one of a kind, once in a lifetime trip you won’t regret. I can’t recommend it enough.read more

I couldn't have wished for a better trip to the Amazonas. Alex (our guide) was fun, passionate, knowledgable,... and his genuine connection with the community was clearly evident. Our trip was packed full of excitement from start to finish: from cruising the river to spot cayman to having the opportunity to hang out with the community and learn the authentic Amazon way of life. Our accommodation was excellent and our host family were the warmest, most welcoming people I've ever had the privilege of knowing. I was super sad to say goodbye and if I ever have the opportunity to return to the Amazon, I wouldn't hesitate to go with Coya Amazonas again. Thank you to Alex and the entire team for everything, it was truly one of the greatest experiences of my entire life.read more

Three days with the tour guides Joaquin, his family and Alex in the middle of the Amazon. My experience in a... short: living and cooking together, sleeping in a homestay, watching animals, visiting the school, playing football... be part of the community, amazing! The food and accommodation is excellent. And when they take you on a tour in the jungle and on the river.... then you notice.... they know what they are talking about and you have the total adventure and feel safe all the time with the guides and experiencing nature and animals close and with respect.read more

I couldn't dream of a better experience in the Amazonas! Being part of the community 7 de Agosto for a few... days was the highlight of my trip. Joaco and his family are lovely, they not only show you the Amazon but also their daily life activities, like cooking, preparing acai, fishing, etc. More than exploring the Amazonas you have the chance to live a truly authentic, local and sustainable experience. I would definitely recommend it! Thank you guys for everything 🙌read more

Highly recommended social and sustainable tourism project in the Amazon! We stayed in the wonderful community... 7 de Agosto for three nights and it was a magical and unique experience. We went fishing on the Amazon, during the night we were searching for caymans (no worries, we stayed in the boat), went with a canoe into the jungle and got to know local fruits and how to prepare them (for instance, açai berry, watch out hipsters ;)) It is simply amazing to get to know the tranquility of the area. The family is very welcoming and the guides shared a lot of knowledge about living with the river and in the jungle. This project is a great alternative in the Amazon since a lot of bad tourism exists in the area.
